This quotation and itinerary is a starting point. We enjoy this stage, spending time with teachers to make changes and ensure each school group gets the best itinerary at a suitable package price.
Confirm the trip
To confirm your trip a non-refundable deposit (normally 15% of the package price) is required. This can be completed ahead of flight release and would be refundable until your flights are booked and agreed. Note: international flights are generally only available to be booked 11 months prior to travel.

We know how difficult it is for teachers to ask parents for more money. Once we have issued your second invoice, the price will never change as long as the itinerary does not change and the number of travellers remains the same. Visiting the Colosseum and Roman Forum offers students a direct connection to ancient Roman civilisation, allowing them to see where political, social, and religious life unfolded.
They can explore the engineering marvel of the Colosseum, understand the role of public entertainment, and walk through the Forum to witness temples, basilicas, and marketplaces that shaped daily life, politics, and law in the Roman world. It brings textbook history to life, showing how architecture, urban planning, and civic culture reflected Roman society and values.
This afternoon students will recreate the experience of being an ancient gladiator.
Participating in a gladiator school activity, is an exhilarating immersion into the world of ancient combat and Roman history. Donning traditional gladiator attire, they learn the techniques of wielding a sword and shield, guided by expert instructors who bring the ancient fighting styles to life, fostering a unique connection to the city's remarkable past and leaving them with unforgettable memories of their time as honorary gladiators in the Eternal City.
Students can explore the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, where classical sculptures and motifs reflect Roman ideals of form, mythology, and human achievement. The Vatican also illustrates the continuity from the Roman Empire to the rise of the Church, showing how ancient architectural techniques and artistic traditions were adapted and preserved, bridging the ancient and medieval worlds.
Inside students can explore a rich array of historical artifacts, art, and architecture, including ancient Roman statues, Renaissance frescoes, and papal apartments, while ascending to the rooftop terrace for panoramic views of Rome's iconic landmarks and the Tiber River.
Aurelian Wall and Gate museum. As students explore the well-preserved sections of the Aurelian Walls, they can marvel at the engineering prowess that protected Rome during the late Roman Empire.
Inside the Porta San Sebastiano, also known as the Appian Way Gate museum, they encounter a captivating collection of artifacts, models, and interactive exhibits that vividly illustrate the walls' construction, military strategies, and the city's past.
An e-bike tour of the Appian Way promises an exhilarating exploration of ancient Roman history, as riders traverse the ancient cobblestone road, flanked by ancient mausoleums, aqueducts and picturesque landscapes, all while enjoying the convenience of electric-assisted pedaling.
Built as a temple to all gods, its with a central oculus remains an engineering marvel, demonstrating the Romans’ mastery of concrete and spatial design.
Visiting the Pantheon allows students to appreciate Roman religious practices, architectural innovation, and the blend of form and function that influenced Western architecture for centuries. Its continuous use—from a pagan temple to a Christian church—also shows the enduring legacy of Roman culture in later history.
Visit Ancient Pompeii.
A knowledgeable guide will lead students through the ancient city frozen in time, buried by a volcanic eruption in 79AD, bringing the Roman city back to life with Latin inscriptions, stories of daily life, and historical context, allowing them to delve deeper into the fascinating world of this ancient civilisation.
Unlike Pompeii, its homes, frescoes, and even wooden structures survived, giving students a vivid sense of Roman domestic life, social organization, and urban planning. Walking through its streets, they can see how ordinary Romans lived, worked, and decorated their homes, bringing ancient history to life in an intimate and tangible way.
An included tour will demonstrate its cultural significance as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Explore Palermo on foot and see how Sicily’s ancient Greek roots influenced later history.
Visit the Cathedral, Palazzo dei Normanni, and Palatine Chapel, where classical and Byzantine motifs blend with Norman and Baroque architecture. Walk through Quattro Canti and the lively historic markets to experience a city built layer by layer over centuries.
This tour connects naturally to the future visit to Greek temples of Segesta and Agrigento, showing how ancient culture shaped Sicilian art, architecture, and urban life.
It is compact, uncrowded, and ideal as an introduction to Greek Sicily.
Proceed to the medieval gem, Erice, and stay overnight at Trapani, a historic coastal city in western Sicily.
Stay overnight in Trapani, set on a narrow peninsula between the Tyrrhenian Sea and salt flats, Trapani has a compact old town with narrow streets, Baroque churches, and waterfront promenades, making it easy and safe to explore on foot. Historically, it reflects Sicily’s layered past, shaped by Phoenician, Roman, Arab, Norman, and Spanish influences, which complements the study of ancient Greek Sicily by showing how the island evolved after the classical period.
After breakfast, students will board their coach to Agrigento.
Agrigento, a city in southern Sicily, is renowned for the awe-inspiring Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where visitors can explore the remarkably well-preserved ancient Greek temples and immerse themselves in the splendor of classical antiquity. Students will see and learn about the impressive Temple of Concordia, Temple of Juno, and Temple of Hercules, gaining insights into ancient architecture, mythology, and the historical significance of these remarkable structures within the context of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations.
Check out the Regional Archaeological Museum “Pietro Griffo” which is located right within the archaeological park area, built partly into the remains of a medieval monastery.
Founded by Greek colonists from Corinth in 734 BC, it became the leading city of Magna Graecia in Sicily, dominating trade, politics, and culture in the region. At its height, Syracuse rivalled Athens in wealth and influence.
It was also the site of the famous Roman siege during the Second Punic War (213–212 BC), when Marcus Claudius Marcellus led Roman forces against the city, which was defended by the brilliant Greek mathematician and engineer Archimedes.
Archimedes famously designed war machines and defensive innovations that delayed the Roman conquest, making Syracuse a key example of Greek ingenuity in warfare.
Studying the siege allows students to connect military history, engineering, and famous historical figures, seeing how Greek knowledge and Roman strategy clashed in one of antiquity’s most dramatic encounters.
The highlight is the ancient Greek theatre, perched on a hillside with breathtaking views of the sea and Mount Etna, where students can see how Greek architecture combined function, acoustics, and dramatic spectacle.
Walking through Taormina’s medieval streets, palaces, and churches reveals layers of Roman, Norman, and later influence, showing how towns evolved on ancient foundations. This mix of Greek engineering, Roman influence, and medieval urban development helps students connect their knowledge of ancient Sicily to the broader historical and cultural transformations of the island.
From here students will either take a fast train back to Rome (9hrs) or a flight from Catania.
